During couples counseling sessions we help you build strong communication skills, change unhealthy patterns, recognize strengths, and cultivate intimacy. WHAT TO EXPECT
Good treatment starts with a thorough assessment. The first four sessions of couples therapy make up the assessment phase where a couples’ concerns are outlined in detail, therapy goals are established, and readiness/appropriateness for treatment is assessed.
Session 1: Couple meets together.
Session 2/3: Partner 1 and 2 both have individual sessions.
Session 4: Feedback and planning.
Following the assessment, if it is determined that couples therapy is appropriate and can effectively address your needs, treatment can begin.
Once treatment begins, ALL sessions will be couples sessions. Mixing individual and couples therapy is not a recommended practice. The typical course of treatment last around 20 sessions but can be more or less depending on the specific dynamics of each relationship.
After successfully completing treatment, many couples schedule a check-in session every three to six months for continued accountability and relapse prevention.
